FoSaMed – Enhancing Food Safety in the Mediterranean

While waiting for the official start of the FoSaMed Master, the School of Agriculture of Meknes, one of the Moroccan partners of the project, organizes a cycle of doctoral days called MARVOOLEA Day’s relating to theoretical and practical training on quality control and the safety of virgin olive oil.

MARVOOLEA is the name that the ENA has given to the specialization of the FoSaMed Master at its institution, which is a specialization in Olive Tree Products. Indeed, the FoSaMed Master includes a first year with a common curricular plan in the 4 HEIs, while the second year is a specialization year, with each of the Moroccan HEIs having a distinct specialization. The specialization offered by ENA is Olive Tree Products.

These training days are for the benefit of PhDs of various Moroccan doctoral centers, in particular: ENA Meknes, My Ismail Meknes University, Ibn Tofail Kenitra University, IAV Hassan II, Sultane My Slimane University.

The first session of the first edition of MARVOOLEA Days was held on April 18 and 19, 2023. In total, 15 people participated in this training led by the FOSAMED ENA Meknes and TECNILAB HTDS Morocco teams. The second session will be held on May 26 and 27, 2023.

These trainings are also an opportunity to promote the equipment purchased as part of the FoSaMed project.

IIn addition, during the International Agricultural Show in Meknes (Morocco), which will take place from May 2 to 7, 2023, sponsorship and support agreements for project activities will be discussed with major players in the sector, including ONSSA, Interprolive (association of professionals in the olive sector), the Regional Directorate of Agriculture Fez-Meknes, the development center AGRINOVA Fez Meknes and 4 of the largest olive oil production companies in Morocco and the GEA Westfalia Spain group (which also works in Morocco).

As the launch of the Master approaches, Fosamed’s dedication grows and already reflects about the future to multiply the impact on the territory and produce a sustainable and lasting change.

The event included lectures, workshops, field trips and cultural activities around the theme: “MENA youth action for meaningful engagement: leaving no one behind” and brought together directors from various organizations in the Middle East and North Africa to discuss the action of young agricultural and agri-food engineers in the region for meaningful participation in the sustainable development of the MENA region.

ENA took the opportunity to present the FOSAMED project and the MARVOOLEA Master’s degree, giving additional impetus to this event and bringing added value to the educational community as a whole. The new Fosamed Master’s is inspiring for students and teaching staff, and reinforces the common commitment of Moroccan institutions to academic excellence and personal development.
