About our organization

Founded in 1978, the University Mohammed Premier (UMP) is the unique university in the eastern region of Morocco “L’Oriental Marocain”, having eight institutions of higher education, distributed over three campuses (Oujda, Angad-Airport and Nador), but most of them are located in Oujda, which is the capital of the region. Currently, 65000 students are enrolled in various disciplines. The academic curricula offered by the UMP cover all the fields of knowledge (sciences, medicine, engineering, law, economy, social sciences, humanities and linguistics). All the tasks of teaching and research are assured by more than 900 professors.

Why we are partecipating in the project

The “Oriental marocain”, the region of University Mohammed Premier, is characterized by a diversity of its agricultural products, of plant and animal origins. Important structuring projects have been developed, others are under development, to promote the products of the region. The control of technological process and safety aspect of local products, which is one of the main objectives of the FOSAMED project, is crucial to strengthen their competitiveness in national and international markets.

Our role in the project

The contribution of University Mohammed Premier to the project is related mainly to Food Microbiology and Biotechnology and their application to control the biotransformation and preservation of agricultural products. The formation of human resources, with high skills in this scientific domain, is important to support structuring project developed in Morocco.
